About Breitling Superocean Watches

Breitling, created in 1884, has long had a strong association with aviation; however, Breitling has also been particularly innovative in the realm of diving watches. The Superocean is an example of this creativity and versatility. The watch made its extraordinary debut in 1957 when it reached the deepest a watch had ever gone: 200 meters.

Dive watches as a whole grew in popularity in the 1950s, with Rolex and Omega also entering the underwater market. Omega made it to a depth of 62.5 meters, and Rolex to a depth of 100 meters. The 200-meter mark made by Breitling with the Superocean was an impressive feat, going double the distance of its nearest competitor. The look of the Superocean was also striking, with a reverse panda dial and pointed indexes.

The watch also currently comes in a wide variety of styles and colors to suit all tastes. It's easy for divers to read underwater, featuring large hands and Arabic numerals to enhance visibility.

In 1964, Breitling introduced the SuperOcean 2005. This model allows divers to measure their diving duration with a unique chronograph. Rather than making a complete turn of the dial each minute, as is typical, it made a turn of the dial every hour. Then, in 2007, Breitling introduced its heritage collection, with timepieces paying homage to the 1950s originals. All pieces feature the 1950s logo and offer the elegantly simplistic style of the originals while still providing the technological features to which wearers have grown accustomed.

The brand introduced another heritage model on the brand's 60th anniversary, with the Superocean Heritage II. This model came with a scratch-proof and shock-resistant steel bezel and is visually different than those made in 2007. The hour hand features a triangle, and the minute hand is shaped like a diamond. It also has a unidirectional rotating bezel, which better guarantees the diver's safety.

Targeted towards serious divers, the SuperOcean Chronograph M2000 is designed to be water-resistant to 2,000 meters. Its key features are a helium valve that controls pressure and the fact that it has no buttons - making it impossible for water to seep in. It is easy to use underwater and fully operational at extreme depths due to its patented magnetic push piece system. Its movement is driven by SuperQuartz, making it far more precise than a typical quartz movement.

The Superocean Chronograph Steelfish is also highly sophisticated, with a robust case and a steel bezel. A highly attractive characteristic is its screw-locked crown with chrono-pushers that remain inactive until unlocked. The Superocean GMT not only offers the same functionality as the other models, but it also clearly displays two time zones simultaneously. As a result, this particular model is suited for frequent travelers.

Breitling SuperOcean watches are prized for their reliability and resiliency underwater, but they also possess an elegant style that can easily be worn at even the most formal occasions. Although the watches have continuously innovated, they have maintained an emphasis on elegance with their fine appearance.
